Unlocking the Future: Powering A Sustainable Tomorrow
Liam McKenzie

The Art of Logic ‘Unlocking the Future’ series continues, with this edition focusing on the emerging technology of localised sustainable energy generation.

Over the last 2 years a real focus on creating sustainable energy has emerged. While it is often discussed at a more commercial level, the concept of localised energy generation is becoming more apparent.

In September 2022, Bayside Council in New South Wales was looking to expand their already successful network of Smart CCTV monitoring for illegal parking, anti-social behaviour, and asset utilisation. The latest hotspot, however, did not provide for any established infrastructure.

Bayside Council and the Art of Logic Team developed a world first solution to this problem. With the deployment of magnetic levitation wind turbine and high-gain solar panels – we deployed a localised energy generation system to power a network of 20 cameras.

The solution provides an end-to-end sustainable option. Using the SureFoot anchoring system, no concrete is used in the anchoring process, meaning the poles have minimal disturbance to the ground, and can be re-located in time if required. The poles themselves are made of composite carbon fibre, further enhancing their green footprint.

The video below demonstrates the all-in-one solution in action. Producing only 40dB above ambient noise and creating enough energy to extend open space lighting or even supply power to amenity blocks, our Smart Poles pay for themselves in energy returns. With the recent Federal Government $100 million Community Energy Upgrades Fund announced, it provides the opportunity for councils to seek out emerging localised energy generation solutions.

Excitedly, our Smart Poles are now being installed in the United States. Later this month, the City of Anaheim will become the first local government authority to deploy them across their network of parks, providing increased community safety.

Our next instalment…

In our next instalment, we delve deeper into the automated parking compliance technology we have developed for government. The technology has successfully seen officers removed from dangerous situations and extend operating hours through the deployment of AI.
