Councils own and manage around a third of Australia’s community infrastructure, including cycle paths, parks and gardens, bridges, libraries, community centers, sporting grounds, and swimming pools.
Of course, renewing, maintaining, and building new assets comes at a direct upfront to Council. Just as important are the ongoing costs involved in the development of a new asset that need to be managed.
The Australian Local Government Association has estimated that the replacement cost of all poor to very poor assets is worth more than $50 billon. With the estimated replacement cost of fair assets in the order of $106bn - $138bn.
With this in mind, what if Councils had access to data that supported decisions related to requests for maintenance or new assets? What if you were able to quantify the usage frequency of an asset, so you could determine the actual rate of maintenance required, or when it might actually need renewal works – without the investment of staff or consultant time?
This is what we have set out to answer at Art of Logic. We know the importance of continuous improvement in government to support communities into the future. This includes leveraging emerging technology and software enhancements, to create access to usable data that has not been possible before.
Through the deployment of our City+ Solution, we are able to provide Councils with granular data on asset utilisation. This includes the number of people, bikes, dogs, or other entities that may use a Council managed asset. Further, we can provide insights into when your assets are busiest, and to what degree they are saturated with demand.
Using our insights, we are able to work with Councils to provide real-world data to be plugged directly into your asset management system to create management plans that reflect community use and sentiment.
Its not enough to collect data though. We go one step further and generate insights into your usage trends. Blended with other real-world data such as air temperature, rainfall, humidity, and air quality – we can create an all-in-one digital image of a park, playground or facility that can then be used to determine the best approach to managing that asset now and into the future.
The above image illustrates how we can turn real-life events captured through our video platform, into usage insights and forecasting capabilities within an interactive dashboard.
Our next instalment…
Illegal dumping impacts economic development and investment, creates the burden of clean-up costs on the community and can have environmental impacts. So, stay tuned for our next edition, where we further explore community safety through the lens of managing illegal dumping through computer vision.
